Teaching what Matters
A few weeks ago, I won a teaching award and earned a bit of recognition from the School of Education at UVA. I was nominated by a student who said, “He made the program worthwhile for me. He made the topics come to life. Very knowledgeable and a caring and informed approach that connects with his students. He wants his students to learn.”
Teaching wasn’t my first career; it’s something I discovered later in life. Yet, it has been fulfilling, and I’ve grown reasonably skilled at it. I attribute much of that to a core belief: what I teach, essential skills and strategy for future leaders, truly matters.
My advice to aspiring academics, speakers, and teachers is this: to work with subject matter that resonates with you, and blend theory with real-world experience. When you do, your passion shines through whether standing in front of a class, leading a meeting, or tackling a complex challenge.
