Hello, I’m Gerry.
I’m an organizational expert, speaker, and author (most recently of “Survival to Success”). I use my unique career background – as a business owner, followed by a pivot to higher education as an executive and academic – to advise leaders on how to embrace change, challenge traditional thinking, and seize opportunities.
Over the last two decades, I’ve been on the faculty at the University of Virginia with split roles that include teaching undergraduate, graduate, and executive classes and as Senior Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer at the McIntire School of Commerce and the Darden Graduate School of Business.
Prior to my tenure at UVA, I was the founder/CEO of a medical design-build firm, with a background in project and program management. That combination of real-world experience and doctoral-level research allows me to speak to the connections between the theory and practice — between what could be and what is.
I serve on several for-profit and non-profit boards of directors, consult with many small- to mid-size start-up and growth firms, and advise a small number of executives and entrepreneurs.
I live in Virginia, with my wife Marianne and dog Bear.
