Teachers Never Leave the Classroom
The Quarterly, a publication of UVA’s School of Education and Human Development, recently published a nice tribute and write up of my career teaching in the Higher Ed program. They wrote, “We all cherish Gerry for his innovative approaches to education and as a force in the classroom. All of us from the Higher Education program will greatly miss his presence after he retires this summer, however, we also share in the excitement for his future endeavors…”
Teaching at the School of Education has been one of my greatest joys. You can count yourself lucky when you’re able to do something you enjoy that is also impactful for those you serve. As I look ahead towards retirement from teaching university students, I know that the “future endeavors” they allude to in the Quarterly, will certainly include teaching in some way shape or form. I’ll continue researching and writing, finding venues and audiences to speak to about strategy and leadership, and looking for consulting opportunities with organizations and executives needing trusted advice and mentorship.
